This massive pine grows from sinuous roots that encircle the rocks at its base.  A combination of the Outline and Spontaneous styles of traditional Chinese painting, it is modeled to show the severe conditions of nature.  In contrast to the weathered trunk and jagged rocks,     the needles and branches form a delicate pattern that brings the composition full circle.
